Description

We have facilitated peer support groups since 2014 and their success supporting individuals can be seen by the replication of groups from just Canterbury in 2014 to now the whole of East Kent. Welcoming anyone aged 16+, we support individuals with mental health problems to improve their wellbeing and help them live happier and healthier lives. No diagnosis is needed as a lot of our group conversations are based on prevention as well as managing mental health. Most of our services take the form of self-help groups, which are either “talking” or “doing” focused. Our groups run at various times of the day and at weekends to accommodate many people's lives. Check out our calendars on our website on each area page (Canterbury & Coastal, Thanet, Folkestone, Dover) for group days and times. We also have a number of online groups running on Zoom. Some examples of groups include but not limited to: Managing Depression, Peer Support Crisis Group (Sunday evening), IT Group, Creative Group and more. We are also the User Voice for Ashford, Canterbury & Coastal, Folkestone and Dover where individuals or groups can talk to us directly, stay anonymous, and give feedback about their experiences using services. "Whether you've used one organisation or a few, just sussing out support or used services / voluntary organisations for a while, let us know how it's been. Your experience will help decision makers to understand what works, what doesn’t and what could be improved. We want to hear your experiences and use them to help shape services and improve them for others". We aim to get in contact with new referrals within 2 business days.

Description

We're a Healthy Living Centre supporting the needs of adults and young people. We work across Gravesham on all sorts of projects - from free exercise to singing and mental health. Pop in and say hello. Our youth service GYG is based here too. The Grand was set-up in 2001 as a multi-partner agency working across the borough. Since then, we have established a successful youth service, helped hundreds of people get online and learn how to use the internet, assisted people in their search for a new job and helped people lose weight and quit smoking. We work with every secondary school in the borough, manage community events, run a community allotment, and have produced an annual youth performance at the Woodville theatre for the past 10 years. We work across Gravesham. Our base is at the Gravesend Methodist Church and many of our services are based here. But we also run our workshops and classes in different spaces and locations in the local area.

Food Advice & Support, Mental Health and Wellbeing Advice & Support, Immigration Advice & Support, Homelessness Services, Community Services

Description

Mayas has grown exponentially since last year. It all started with Maya’s Community Café last August. The café is often bursting at the seams. It’s where locals meet to share a coffee, to share problems and to support each other. Some just come to keep warm. Those who are lonely or isolated sometimes spend hours in the café. Hugs are free and plentiful. Rough sleepers come to charge phones, get a free meal and hope someone will wash their sleeping bag. Maya’s café is a safe space where people feel they belong. Maya’s Foodbank also operates here. We currently provide food for over 200 people a week. Customers are often signposted to other services or offered direct help where appropriate. The Ukrainian Hub also meets at the café. Help with job search, benefit queries and accommodation is offered to Ukrainian guests. We also run Maya’s FREE Shop which stocks recycled clothes, shoes, toys, bedding and household items. Provided customers don’t resell and only take what they need, they are welcome to take items completely free of charge. 50 people per hour visit the FREE shop during busy periods.

Dads Unlimited

Categories

Mental Health and Wellbeing Advice & Support, Family Services, Domestic Abuse Advice & Support

Description

We aim to support dads to help them improve their co-parenting relationships after parental separation, and seek help for their mental health across England & Wales. The issues we support are suicidal ideation/self-harm, anxiety, depression, domestic abuse, loneliness and isolation. We provide wrap-around support on all of these issues, and focus on making sure the voice of the child is at the heart of the family breakdown process. We work hard to reduce male suicide; help male victims of domestic abuse, and reduce parental conflict / improve co-parenting. PLEASE NOTE ASSISTANCE CRITERIA: As an organisation that promotes the values of equality, diversity, dignity and respect we, will not unintentionally assist anyone with a DVPO, conviction, caution, reprimand, or any warnings; spent or otherwise, for assault, harassment, and/or abuse. We do not unintentionally assist perpetrators. If you are hurting someone, and you want help in stopping, please contact Respect on 0808 802 4040 or visit their website http://respect.uk.net/ We can assist if you have only allegations against you. However, should you be found to be guilty, or have facts found against you, then again, unfortunately, we will not be able to assist you any further. As we work with numerous partner organisations, should the information be identified that you have been found guilty of perpetrating domestic abuse; we will formally cease support in writing, and we will, in appropriate circumstances, signpost you to other services that might be able to support your needs. We take this stance in order to protect all of the people we are trying to help and their families. We also take the strong view that no matter how difficult or frustrating your challenge; the right, if not only, way to solve your situation is always through constructive and intelligent dialogue. We appreciate your understanding in advance of your cooperation on this matter. We reserve the right to withdraw our service(s) when we believe that support would not further the interests of the children or other adults. Our mentoring agreement is attached below.
